US Open 2009 Champions: Juan Martín del Potro and Kim Clijsters

20-year-old Juan Martín del Potro just defeated five-time US Open champion Roger Federer. What a match! During his speech, del Potro said: I have two dreams. One is to win the US Open, and the second is to be like Roger.

He has already accomplished one of those two things, and who knows, maybe he will win 15 Grand Slam singles titles, too. I wouldn’t mind seeing more of him. Right, ladies? Congrats to the Argentine, and we hope to see you win more in the future!

Congratulations to Kim Clijsters! Not only did she make a huge comeback after a two year retirement to have her ADORABLE daughter (see photo below), she was the first unseeded player and wildcard to win the US Open. Not bad for her second US Open championship. It’s been an amazing two weeks of tennis. Bring on 2010!

A Reason To Shop: Fashion’s Night Out 2009

Have you been looking for an excuse to shop? Now Sarah Jessica Parker and P. Diddy along with their friends Oscar de la Renta and Diane von Furstenburg are encouraging you to shop! What better excuse?! These celebrities and designers (and many others) have gotten together to create a PSA for Fashion’s Night Out, a global initiative to promote retail, restore consumer confidence, and celebrate fashion. On Thursday, September 10th, over 700 retailers and designers across New York City are going to be open until 11pm, so treat yourself after work or school and go help the economy! I’m so disappointed that I won’t be in NYC for this event. Please go and buy lots! There will also be a clothing drive, so clean out your closet and donate the clothes to make room for all your new purchases! While you’re shopping, pick up a Fashion’s Night Out t-shirt at participating retailers. 40% of retail proceeds from the t-shirt sale will be donated by the retailers to the National September 11 Memorial & Museum at the World Trade Center.

Fashion Night’s Out will be held in 13 different countries, so if you’re not in the U.S., hopefully you can catch it where you are.
